I love Early Pianofortes! This 1798 Broadwood was in my permanent collection but I am now offering it for sale.

1798 five octave John Broadwood and Son (London) square pianoforte from the period of George III. This is an exceptional instrument in pristine, top museum quality condition.

Here are some early pianofortes that have passed through my shop:

1817 John Broadwood and Sons (London) five and a half octave square pianoforte. Built the same year as the famous Beethoven Broadwood, with similar styling features. Nameboard cartouche reads "John Broadwood and Sons / Makers to His Majesty and the Princesses / Great Pulteney Street / London / Golden Square ".  Case mahogany with ormolu moldings, serial number 21146.

1791 Gabriel Buntebart and Sievers Square Pianoforte
This early five octave instrument is a very fine addition to my collection. The nameboard cartouche inscription reads. " Gabriel Buntebart et Sievers Londini Fecerunt 1791 / Princess Street / Hanover Square"

Gabriel Buntebart was one of the very first piano makers in England. He came over from Mecklenberg-Strelitz in Germany in association with Queen Charlotte's court in the early 1760s. Buntebart was also a very close friend of Johann Christian Bach. This fine pianoforte features handstops for bass sustain, full sustain and a buff stop in the same manner as the earlier Zumpe & Buntebart pianofortes were equipped. Now available for $4900.00 in unrestored condition.

Formerly in the collection:

Five and a half octave George III English grand pianoforte, missing the original nemeboard but probably circa 1805 and from the shop of Robert Stodart.

1800 John Broadwood and Son (London) five and a half octave square pianoforte. Very similar to the 1798 Broadwood square. Nameboard cartouche reads "John Broadwood and Son / Makers to His Majesty and the Princesses / Great Pulteney Street / London / Golden Square ".  Case mahogany with inlaid stringing.

1797 William Bent (Boston) five and a half octave square pianoforte. This instrument is of special interest as there were very few eighteenth century pianos made in America, and there are even fewer still in existence.

James Ball and Son five and a half octave square circa 1819-22, rosewood and mahogany with boxwood stringing. Nameboard reads " James Ball & Son / Makers to his Majesty / Duke Street / Grovsenor Square".

Longman and Broderip five and a half octave square circa 1796 or 1797. A fine example with English double action and fine artwork on the nameboard.

Circa 1822-1825 Edward Ball (London) five and a half octave square. Edward Ball was the son of James Ball.
